Web Jobs

We talked in class about jobs involved in interactive and web work. here is a list of the jobs for your reference. This is by no means a complete list of everything you may encounter, but it's a start.

UI Designer/Front-end designer

UI refers to a User Interface Designer. It could also be considered a front-end designer.

Interactive Designer

Specializes in creating engaging interactive online experiences, usually with rich media like video, flash and javascript.

Flash Developer

Specializes in creating online applicaiton with Flash and AS3 (Actionscript 3).

Database Programmer

Database and scripting languages, SQL, MySQL, MSSQL, .NET

Web Designer

Usually specializes in html, css, some javascript, as well as design, flash, illustration, photography.

UX | User Experience Designer

A specialized job which focuses on the user experience. They usually work with programmers, developers, designers to improve consistency in design and implementation and improve reaching goals and tracking of sites.

SEO/SEM marketer/specialist

A specialized job for improving search engine and marketing efforts related to a site.

Web Application Developer

Creating specifically online applications with the functionality of offline apps, but including the added benefits of access-anywhere connectivity. mint.com is an example, an online only application for managing your money.

IA: Information Architect

Information architecture is defined by the Information Architecture Institute as:
1. The structural design of shared information environments.
2. The art and science of organizing and labeling web sites, intranets, online communities and software to support findability and usability.
3. An emerging community of practice focused on bringing principles of design and architecture to the digital landscape.
